My Pen's Legacy: A book of New Age rhythms

My Pen's Legacy: A book of New Age rhythms
by Gerard Osenele Ukpan

Gerard Ukpan is a theatre director and performance poet from Nigeria. Born in 1976, Gerard first appeared on stage at the age of 4 and started writing poetry at 15. His first influences were music-backed storytelling and oral history at home. His knowledge was enriched by his father's library - he says he "studied at his Father's College".

Travelling between his hometown in Edo and Abuja led Gerard to reflect on the poverty, crime and other social issues facing many Nigerians. He decided to use poetry to find the elixir that would ease humanity's ills to "penetrate the subconscious so that there will be a psychic revolution."

"My Pen's Legacy" is a powerful collection of mesmerising poems that show life's winding road and its rhythmic journey - ups and downs, dreams and realities, happiness and sadness, love and hate, light and darkness. It explores the mysteries of life through poetry and reminds us of 'who we are', 'where we are' and 'where we are from'.

'The I Know' by Troy McKenize

The I Know
by Troy McKenzie

"The I Know" is a book that elaborates on the past, present and future of the children of Ethiopian-African descent. It reasons that the only way one can free oneself from any difficult or awkward situation is to know and not believe what to do.

This book defends knowledge, and so it shows that belief is a poor substitute for knowledge. Belief is an acceptance by an individual who is ignorant of the fact. Belief is one's mental act, one's condition, or one's habit of placing trust or confidence in another. Knowledge acquaints a one with facts, truths, or principles of living which justify us on God's earth. Such knowledge comes from study or investigation, which defines a wise individual.

Written by Troy McKenzie, this book consists of over fifteen thousand words, aimed at freeing the mind from ignorance and the instigation of violence, which is so common nowadays.

'The "I" Know' is a teaching relating to the word 'belief'. This teaching is to enable the children of African descent, those at home and those abroad, to distinguish a clear overstanding (understanding) of the word 'belief'. This word is a systematic concept used to apprehend the individual's intellectual power; limiting one's mind from the knowledge of knowing the true manifestations of life.

Belief can't guarantee the Black Nation's preservation, protection or deliverance from those economically unpleasant and difficult predicaments confronting them at every turn. Therefore, 'knowing' is the only agent or means that brings about such deliverance from destruction, difficulty, and unpleasantness.
